Traditional Oil Finishing

At McKay Brown, we take pride in finishing all our stocks with a 100% hand rubbed oil finish. With our own formula for stock oil made in house, the finish achieved on our stocks is truly unique. With each gun taking multiple weeks of oil finishing work, perfection is guaranteed.

Clients may choose from either a satin, semi-gloss or high-gloss finish.

Chequering

All McKay Brown guns are hand chequered by our skilled craftsmen. Each individual line is cut to create our classic Scottish patterns. At 16 Lines Per Inch (LPI) the butt end is chequered to provide maximum grip to the shoulder when firing at fast moving targets.

The chequer at the hand and forend are cut at 18LPI, traditionally quite a coarse size, this adds purchase to the hands providing better manoeuvrability and less slipping during the cold and wet seasons of the year, it also gives more grip when shooting with gloves which may be paramount when in the highlands.
